Besides the normal competition with it’s timed runs and 10-minute jam session, Jon Nixon, a Ramp City local, had also engineered an extension shaped like the iconic Blackpool tower which saw skaters navigating an extra two or so feet of vert to land their tricks and claim the glory of tricking the Blackpool tower. The Exten...

Firstly, could you please give an overview of your time as a skateboarder. What have some of the highlights been for you?
Well I was was BMXer and my riding mate had a skateboard too. He let me try it once, and I really liked it, so I used to badger him to bring it out every time we went riding. One day we were practicing flatland in this school and a dude (Who I later found out was Don Brider), skated past, rode up the wall, back down and then carried on pushing off......

Hey Jesse! Before we begin, could you please introduce yourself to the readers?
I’m Jesse Thomas, I’m 24, I’ve been skating for 14 years now and it’s my favorite thing to do.
Can you tell us about Vert Attack? What were your expectations going into the competition and how did it feel to win?
Vert Attack is one of those really special contests that brings people together.
I’ve been going since I was 13 years-old, and still bailing fs airs. I remember watching Juergen Horrwarth do a nose grind off this set back extension and this wave of wonder hitting me. Every year since has brought its own magic and I think it’s due to the unique collection of skaters th...

If you’re a Vert Skater in the UK, then Skaterham Skatepark in Surrey was the place to be on the 30th of April. The first stop of this year’s UK Vert Series went off with skaters from all over the UK and Europe flocking to the infamous ramp in the Coldstream Guards’ disused chapel to compete at the fourth edition of Sunday Service.
This year’s event saw 49 skaters across four categories partake in the competition as well as a brand-new format for the series: two 30 second runs for qualifiers and three 30 second runs followed by a ten-minute jam with the top five tricks from each skater added to their best run score for the finals. These sh...

Hey Jim, can you tell us a bit about your background and how you first got into skateboarding?
I started skating when I was about 12 it was never particularly serious when I first got into it. I used to skate with my friends at the skatepark in Birmingham and then I saw some people skating vert which was like Sean Goff, Jim the Skin and that group and was fascinated by that. All my friends at school stopped skating and I carried on skating on my own and that’s been my life pretty much the last 20 years. How do you balance your time between your teaching career and skateboarding? I don’t think I’ll be able to do if I did anything else but pretty much all I do is I teach then I go skating. So I will leave school about 5:00 PM, I’m normally home by about 6:00 PM and the...
